Disaster Response Team Deployed to Increase Alertness on Kelapa Island

The Disaster Response Team in Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Thousand Islands Sub-district, Thousand Islands, continues to increase awareness and prepare for potential disasters.

Kelapa Island Urban Village Head Madi Moh Dali said the Disaster Command Post was set up in the Nyiur Melambai Child-friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA).

"Every day we send a cross-sector team at the post, starting from Satpol PP, Fire and Rescue Sub-agency, army/police, until residents," he expressed, after he led the ceremony for the readiness of Kelapa Island Urban Village Disaster Response Team and monitored the region, Sunday (3/14.

According to him, early prevention and disaster mitigation in Thousand Islands was focused on, tornadoes, tides, high waves and extreme rainfall.

"They also receive reports if there is flooding in the residential area due to damage to the drain or the embankment thus it can be handled immediately," he explained.

At the same time, his side also intensified health protocols monitoring. "We warn residents and tourists to always wear masks when outside the house," he stated.
